The Builtin Contractors Guarantee is designed to provide you with complete peace of mind when you use a contractor for work on your property.
What does the Builtin Contractors Guarantee cover?
- Loss of deposit
- Non-completion of the Contract
- Defects for up to 12 months.
How much will it cost?
The Builtin Contractors Guarantee is very reasonably priced, considering it covers you for 12 months from the end of the maintenance period.
How does it work?
Your Builtin approved contractor will complete an application for the guarantee at the time you sign the contract and before construction starts. You will receive the written guarantee when it is accepted.
How do I know I’ve engaged a Builtin approved contractor?
Contractors who can provide you with a Builtin Contractors Guarantee have been professionally assessed by Builtin NZ Ltd and found to have the business skills and resources to give you peace of mind, and can apply for a written guarantee when undertaking civil contracts. The guarantee is only available to members of the New Zealand Contractors’ Federation Inc.

To make a claim:
For Claims for Loss of Deposit or Non-Completion, telephone Builtin New Zealand Limited on 0800 BUILTIN (284 584).
For Claims for Defects (quality and/or materials) you must first give notice to the Contractor requiring them to remedy the defect as well as notifying us.
If the Contractor fails to do so within a reasonable time please telephone us on 0800 BUILTIN (284 584).
The Loss of Deposit and Non-Completion cover applies from the time that the Application for the Guarantee is accepted by Builtin New Zealand Limited and a Certifi cate of Guarantee is issued to you.
